Alan D. Schwartz

Joined the amfAR board in December 1996. Supports amfAR’s fundraising events and contributes generously through
the Schwartz Family Foundation. Has played a major role in attracting new talent to the amfAR board.
Since June 2009, Mr. Schwartz has been the executive chairman of Guggenheim Partners, LLC. In January 2008, Mr.
Schwartz was named chief executive officer of the Bear Stearns Companies, Inc.,
having served as its president since August 2007. Earlier, he had shared the
role of president and chief operating officer. He was on the Bear Stearns board
of directors and its executive committee. He was also the firm’s senior investment
banker. He joined Bear Stearns & Co. in 1976 as institutional sales manager
in the Dallas office. From 1985 to June 2001, in New York, he was an executive
vice president and head of the firm’s investment banking department. For more
than ten years, in addition to serving on amfAR’s board, Mr. Schwartz has been
on the boards of two organizations dedicated to helping underserved young
people: St. Vincent’s Home Services (Brooklyn) and the National Mentoring
Partnership. He also serves on the boards of the New York University Medical
Center and the Robin Hood Foundation. A graduate of Duke University, he has served
on and is a former chairman of its Fuqua School of Business Board of Visitors.
Currently, the former Duke baseball star is on the university’s board of trustees
and its athletic advisory board.
Schwartz is currently Executive Chairman, Guggenheim Partners, LLC. He has five children and lives with his wife, Nancy, in Greenwich, CT.
