amfAR Supports General Hospital’s 2014 Nurses’ Ball

GenHospital_G-profile_140325.jpgA year after partnering with the ABC Television Network to mark the revival of General Hospital’s Nurses’ Ball, amfAR is once again lending its support to the residents of Port Charles’s most beloved charity event. The Nurses’ Ball is a fictional fundraiser dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness and research that is held in General Hospital‘s Metro Court Hotel.  It showcases the talents of the show’s characters and includes musical performances, dance routines, and special guest appearances.

In 2013, amfAR helped ABC celebrate General Hospital’s 50th anniversary by sponsoring the return of the Nurses’ Ball, which originally aired annually from 1994 to 2001, marking the first time that the Ball was linked to a real-life charity. “General Hospital is proud to be working with amfAR as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary,” said Executive Producer Frank Valentini at the time. “We have pulled out all the stops to make the return of the Nurses’ Ball an event worth waiting for and by linking the ball to amfAR we partner in their efforts to raise awareness beyond the town of Port Charles.”

This year, amfAR worked with ABC to provide the show with HIV/AIDS background and statistical information. Episodes featuring the Nurses’ Ball will air at 2:00 P.M. EDT on ABC beginning Thursday, May 8, and running through Tuesday, May 13.

General Hospital is the longest running American soap opera currently in production (airing its 13,000th episode in February 2014), the third longest-running drama in American television history, and holds the record for most Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series—with 11 wins.
