amfAR SUPPORTER SINCE 2001 

A generous benefactor of amfAR’s international research and prevention programs, the M•A•C AIDS Fund has supported the MSM Initiative and Women’s Initiative on Sexual Health. As a strong advocate for syringe access and federal funding of syringe exchange programs (SEPs), the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund currently supports amfAR’s work to strengthen federal policies around SEP funding and advocacy efforts to advise government agencies on the guidance given to local health departments and organizations on their use of federal SEP funds.

M•A•C Cosmetics and the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund have supported many of amfAR’s fundraising events both internationally and domestically. In addition to supporting the events with sponsorships, M•A•C Cosmetics and the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund have brought many of their celebrity spokespeople to either attend or perform at amfAR events including Dita Von Teese, Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, Ricky Martin, Sir Elton John, Mary J. Blige, Fergie, and Deborah Harry.

In 2007, amfAR honored M•A•C AIDS Fund Chairman John Demsey at the New York Gala with amfAR’s Award of Courage for playing a vital role in increasing AIDS awareness and accelerating the pace of HIV/AIDS research.

Mr. Demsey was honored again at the 2012 Inspiration Gala São Paulo in recognition of his extraordinary vision and leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  Under Mr. Demsey’s leadership, the M·A·C AIDS Fund has raised more than $236 million to help improve the lives of men, women, and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally, and in turn has funded countless amfAR initiatives.
