A Champion of the Fight Against AIDS
For many years, Janet Jackson has been a vocal champion of the fight against AIDS. As an amfAR Ambassador, she has traveled to many of the Foundation’s international benefit events in countries such as France, Italy, and Austria, as well as attending those here in the U.S. In the process, she has helped raise millions of dollars for amfAR. Wherever she goes, Janet speaks out about AIDS in her soft but forceful voice, reminding her rapt listeners that this fight is far from over.
For World AIDS Day in December 2012, Janet recorded and produced a public service announcement for amfAR – all at her own expense. The PSA has been broadcast widely on the internet, helped along by a tweet from Janet to her two and a half million Twitter followers. She also co-authored an opinion piece with amfAR’s revered Founding Chairman Dr. Mathilde Krim. Published on CNN.com, the piece urges readers to educate themselves about HIV, to get tested, and to actively participate in creating an AIDS-free generation here in the U.S.
