As general counsel and vice president of amfAR since 1994, John Logan advises
the Foundation’s staff and board on a wide variety of legal matters. He also
serves as director of planned giving, in which capacity he is responsible for
the development and administration of revenue from estates and related trusts,
an initiative that typically brings in $1.5 to $3 million annually. And as
assistant secretary of amfAR’s board of trustees, Mr. Logan maintains the
official records of the board and advises the board on legal and ethical
issues.Prior to joining amfAR, for 10 years Mr. Logan was vice president, general
counsel, and secretary of the board of trustees at the national office of the
March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. Previously, he served as legal counsel
at the U.S. headquarters of the Royal Bank of Canada and as an associate at the
New York law firm of Milbank, Hadley, and McCloy.
Mr. Logan has served two terms on the Committee on Non-Profit Organizations
of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and is a member of the
Non-Profit and Trade Association Committee of the American Corporate Counsel
Association, the American Bar Association, and the New York State Bar
Association. He received his law degree from Columbia University Law School and
is admitted to the New York State Bar. Before his legal studies, he received a
Ph.D. from Yale University and a B.A. (magna cum laude) from Williams
College.
