amfAR’s Public Policy Program
amfAR is a respected advocate of rational and compassionate AIDS-related public policy. Through its Public Policy program, amfAR advocates the development and implementation of a National AIDS Strategy; increased federal funding for HIV/AIDS research, including vaccine and microbicide research; removal of the ban on federal funding for syringe exchange programs; expansion of access to care and treatment; and protection of the civil rights of all people affected by HIV/AIDS.

The 24-member committee, which will meet in Washington, DC, three times a year, will advise the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on research and prevention issues.
