Promoting the Development and Delivery of New Interventions
Currently available prevention and treatment interventions must be more widely and equitably distributed globally, but new tools are needed in order to end the AIDS epidemic.
amfAR advocates research and development of new prevention and treatment interventions, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and microbicides. Ongoing PrEP and microbicide clinical studies are testing whether the use of antiretroviral drugs by HIV-negative individuals can reduce their susceptibility to HIV infection. Results of a clinical study reported in July 2010 demonstrated the safety and efficacy of a microbicide for HIV prevention.
