amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 12 JUNE 2020

CECILY BROWN, GEORGE CONDO AND URS FISCHER DONATE WORKS TO BE SOLD TO BENEFIT THE amfAR FUND TO FIGHT COVID-19

Featuring New Works Created While Many of the Artists Were in Quarantine

 ART!

New York – On July 10, Christie’s and amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, will present From the Studio, a dedicated grouping of approximately 20 works that will be offered as part of Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale. All sale proceeds from these works will benefit the amfAR Fund to Fight COVID-19, which was launched by the organization to expand their efforts to include research on the deadly coronavirus.

From the Studio will encompass a selection of contemporary artworks generously donated by leading artists, which have been sourced with the help of Michael Nevin, Co-Founder of The Journal Gallery. Nearly all of the lots being offered in this grouping were created by the artists while in quarantine.

Michael Nevin remarked: I am humbled by the generosity of artists in their support of the amfAR Fund to Fight COVID-19. Almost every artist contributing to the From The Studio benefit produced the work donated while in quarantine—a time of great reflection. As a result these artworks possess a unique significance and reference a transformative time in history. My hope is that they not only go into great collections, while raising much needed funds to develop an effective treatment for the coronavirus, but that we are able to view these works in the future and gain insight into what it meant to live during this time.

Additional works from the benefit will be announced closer to the sale date. Further details about the partnership between Christie’s and amfAR may be found here.

In recent years, Christie’s has successfully hosted numerous auctions that benefit charitable causes, including Global Wildlife Conservation, The 11th Hour Auction, Artists for Haiti, the Green Auction series, and many more.
