amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is seeking a dynamic and strategic Creative Director.

amfAR is a leading nonprofit advancing scientific discovery to improve global health, with a primary and enduring commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. As a catalyst for breakthrough science, amfAR supports innovative research in HIV and other diseases where viruses and the immune system play a critical role. Since 1985, amfAR has raised more than $950 million and awarded in excess of 3,900 grants to scientists worldwide.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

amfAR is looking for a Creative Director to lead creative ideation, concepting, and art/copy direction in support of the organization’s life-saving mission. The Creative Director oversees a team responsible for the stewardship of the amfAR brand, including design and production of all amfAR web, digital, social media assets, video (animation, mixed media, live action), publication and printed materials. As Creative Director, you will have the opportunity to shape the voice, look, and feel of a globally recognized organization at a pivotal moment—elevating how we tell stories, engage audiences, and inspire action.

Reporting to the Vice President and Director of Public Information, this role works closely with the Director, Integrated Marketing and supports amfAR’s Research, Events, Philanthropy, and Public Policy departments to translate organizational priorities into impactful creative strategies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead amfAR’s creative vision and ensure consistent brand expression across all marketing and communications touchpoints and experiences
  • Own and evolve brand guidelines, voice, visual identity, and creative standards tailored for various platforms, audiences and flagship events
  • Proactively identify and execute opportunities to elevate amfAR’s visual storytelling across channels
  • Lead end-to-end creative development—from concept through final delivery—across digital and print, including campaigns, event materials, presentations, publications, and web assets
  • Develop narrative-driven campaigns across formats, including pre-roll, short-form video, and social-first storytelling
  • Oversee the creative direction and production of photo and video content across formats and channels, including on-location shoots and live event capture
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of creatives; set a high bar for craft, narrative, and taste
  • Define and manage a flexible resourcing model, including the selection and oversight of external agencies, designers, and production partners as needed to leverage complementary skill sets and augment internal capacity
  • Identify and implement AI-driven tools that enhance creative speed, scalability, and personalization while maintaining brand integrity
  • Define and implement standardized processes for project intake, prioritization, scheduling, and resource allocation, prioritizing effectively in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Oversee visual identity systems, templates, and asset libraries to ensure brand integrity at scale

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Advertising, or other creative concentrations
  • Ambitious creative portfolio that highlights experience across media, especially digital/social
  • Proven ability to lead teams and build brands
  • Mastery of typography, layout and copywriting
  • Skilled in Adobe Creative Cloud: Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier
  • 7+ Years of creative in-house or agency experience
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
  • Experience in non-profit, medical, research or healthcare branding is preferred but not required

Salary Range: $125,000 to $145,000
