Philanthropy Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Philanthropy

amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is seeking a Philanthropy Coordinator.

amfAR is dedicated to ending the global AIDS epidemic through innovative research. With the freedom and flexibility to respond quickly to emerging areas of scientific promise, amfAR plays a catalytic role in accelerating the pace of HIV/AIDS research and achieving real breakthroughs. amfAR funded research has increased our understanding of HIV and has helped lay the groundwork for major advances in the study and treatment of HIV/AIDS. Since 1985, amfAR has invested close to $600 million in its programs and has awarded grants to more than 3,500 research teams worldwide.


Provide administrative support for the Philanthropy team, handle donor inquiries and requests, and assist with the database needs of the entire Development department. Serve as liaison on behalf of the Development team to coordinate with the information technology and accounting departments in matters related to NPSP (Salesforce).


Handle all incoming calls and emails from constituents for donations, information changes, and other requests.

Assist the Director of Philanthropy and the Philanthropy team with calendar management and coordination of internal and external meetings, agendas, and recaps.

Help to create Philanthropy Board reports.

Coordinate team building exercises and quarterly debriefs.

Process all returned mail for the department.

Work with the Finance department to determine the coding for Philanthropy and Special Events gifts and resolve any issues in the data entry process.

Create fundraising acknowledgements and thank you letters of $1,000+.

Handle invoices for the Philanthropy department.

Assist with ongoing oversight and maintenance of donor database, including creating or editing contacts and reviewing and resolving duplicate records.

Assist with the creation of queries, exports, mailing lists, and reports built in NPSP for the Development department.

Perform other department duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree and two years related work experience required. Must possess working knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Excellent computer skills with knowledge of business applications, accounting principles, donor database systems, especially Salesforce, a plus. Keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Discretion and tact in handling confidential donor information.

Salary Range: $50,000 to $55,000
