Rocco Ritchie is a British-American artist whose practice examines the relationship between memory, identity, and contemporary visual culture. Working across painting and sculpture, he has recently expanded his practice through the development of a new sculptural series. His work combines figurative elements with expressive mark-making, drawing on personal experience and the visual languages of art history.
Ritchie’s paintings are defined by layered surfaces, gestural brushwork, and an interplay between recognizable forms and ambiguity. He builds compositions through the accumulation of color, line, and imagery, allowing figures and motifs to remain open to interpretation. This approach foregrounds questions of perception, emotional experience, and the instability of visual meaning.
Born and raised between London, New York, and Los Angeles, Ritchie encountered distinct cultural and artistic environments from an early age. He has developed his practice independently through sustained studio work, extending his engagement with contemporary painting into sculpture.
His work has been exhibited internationally. Across both media, he investigates how images and objects can carry personal associations while remaining connected to broader cultural and historical references. His ongoing practice considers the relationship between inherited artistic languages and contemporary experience, using painting and sculpture to develop a visual vocabulary grounded in material process, figuration, and ambiguity. His work is in the collections of Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation, Sting, Rick Owens, and many more.
