Chloe Wise (b. 1990, Montreal, Canada) is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York whose practice spans painting, sculpture, video, and installation. Her practice is rooted in the history of portraiture and explores how the Self is constructed—in particular, how perception, belief, consumption, and image-making shape the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.
With humor and irony, she references canonical art-historical tableaux while probing projected desires. Drawing on references from advertising, fashion, taboo, and multinational branding, Wise both parodies contemporary consumptive habits and exposes ways in which the body is framed, stylized, and rendered excessive within systems of visual culture.Wise’s recent solo exhibitions include “Extra Sensory” at KBH.G, Basel (2026); “Myth Information” at Almine Rech, New York (2025); “Told A Vision” at Art Basel Parcours, Basel (2023); “In the Loveliness of Perfect Deeds” at Blouin Division, Montréal (2022); and “And Everything Was True” at HEART Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, Denmark (2019). Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at Massimo de Carlo, Centre Pompidou-Metz, Kunstverein Bielefeld, LACMA, The Andy Warhol Museum, Kasmin Gallery, and Gagosian. Wise is the subject of two monographs, Second Nature (2021) and Chloe Wise (2016).
