Iman

Legendary Somali model, actress, and entrepreneur Iman has been a steadfast advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS, the rights of women and girls, and children in resource-limited settings, among others. Over her decades-long career as a supermodel, she has inspired designers Gianni Versace, Thierry Mugler, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and Yves Saint Laurent, among others.

As a businessperson, she founded IMAN Cosmetics, in part to expand the range of options for women of color. She created a top-selling clothing line, Global Chic, for the Home Shopping Network.

In 2019, Iman became anti-poverty and humanitarian organization CARE’s first-ever Global Advocate. She has also served as a global ambassador for Keep A Child Alive and an ambassador for Save a Child. She was married to David Bowie until his death in 2016.
