amfAR gratefully honors the memory of Frederick J. “Rick” Gentry, who chose to invest in a future filled with possibility by including us in his estate as a beneficiary of the Fillet-Gentry Trust. His remarkable gift will help support amfAR’s research programs and its commitment to ending HIV/AIDS.
Raised in Fernandina Beach, Florida, Rick served in the U.S. Navy before pursuing his education in psychology. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees with honors and went on to practice clinical psychology in Southern California.
While stationed at Lemoore Naval Air Station, Rick met David E. Fillet, a surgeon who would become his lifelong partner. Their relationship spanned 44 years, until Rick’s death in 2012. They shared both a life and professional office space in Marina del Rey, where Rick maintained his psychology practice.
Through his estate plans, Rick extended his generosity to future generations who are relying on the work of today’s innovative scientists. His contribution strengthens amfAR’s role as a driver of breakthrough science, supporting innovative research that helps accelerate discoveries, improve health, and save lives.
