Pediatric and Adolescent HIV Research
TREAT Asia network research studies children and adolescents who have grown up living with HIV as well as young adults who have acquired HIV later in their lives. Research priorities include HIV clinical and treatment outcomes, co-infections, co-morbidities, and the transition from pediatric to adult HIV care.
TREAT Asia’s pediatric network has included 18 sites across six countries, most of which contribute to the TREAT Asia Pediatric HIV Observational Database (TApHOD). TApHOD is a regional pediatric HIV study set up by TREAT Asia in 2006 that currently includes data from more than 5,300 children and adolescents. Studies include evaluating trends in treatment management, factors associated with treatment failure, the long-term consequences of living with HIV, mental health conditions, and examining how to ensure successful transition to adult HIV care.
