amfAR Commits Nearly $2 Million Toward Four New HIV Cure-Focused Studies

NEW YORK, July 28, 2026 — amfAR funding will launch four new studies testing innovative strategies to cure HIV. More than 40 million people are living with HIV globally and rates of new infections are increasing in multiple parts of the world including Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Pacific, as well as several major cities in the U.S. The landscape for funding HIV research and programs has also become progressively unstable, but amfAR’s commitment to a safe, accessible, and scalable cure for HIV remains as strong as ever.

Daily Updates from the 26th International AIDS Conference

The theme of this year’s conference is “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.” and these words will be on everyone’s mind as an estimated 10,000 advocates, researchers, and policymakers from around the world gather in person and virtually in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the International AIDS Society’s biannual conference, AIDS 2026. Among them will be representatives from amfAR and amfAR-funded researchers who are participating in more than 20 sessions and poster presentations.
